How to use CuriosityTracker

Last updated: 29 April 2026

CuriosityTracker is a place to capture the questions you want to explore, come back to them at the right time, and see what you've been curious about over time.

Getting Started

The home screen shows a quick overview: how many curiosities you have, how many you added this week, and how many are ready to revisit today.

  • Tap Add Curiosity to capture a new question.
  • Tap Open Library to see all your curiosities, plus the Resurface and Insights tabs.

Adding a Curiosity

  1. Tap Add Curiosity (or + in your library).
  2. Write your question in the Curiosity field. This is the only required field.
  3. Optionally add:
    • Status – Open, Exploring, or Answered.
    • Tags – separate them with commas, tap Suggest Tags for ideas, or tap All Tags to pick from tags you've used before.
    • Notes – anything you already know or want to remember.
    • Why this matters and Next step – to help future you pick up where you left off.
    • Source capture date – when you first came across the idea.
    • Webpages – links related to the question, each with an optional title and note.
  4. Tap Save.

Statuses

  • Open – a question you haven't started on yet.
  • Exploring – something you're actively looking into.
  • Answered – you've found what you were looking for. Answered curiosities no longer appear in Resurface.

Saving From Other Apps

You can send webpages, text, PDFs, and files straight into CuriosityTracker from Safari and other apps.

  1. Tap the Share button in the other app.
  2. Choose CuriosityTracker.
  3. Choose to create a new curiosity or add the item to an existing one, then tap Save.

Shared files appear as attachments on the curiosity. Tap one to preview it.

Adding With Siri and Shortcuts

Say "Add curiosity in CuriosityTracker" to Siri, or use the Add Curiosity action in the Shortcuts app. Your curiosity is saved without opening the app.

Your Library

The Curiosities tab lists everything you've captured.

  • Search by question, notes, or tags.
  • Filter by status using the Status picker.
  • Tap a curiosity to see its details. Tap Edit to change it.
  • Delete a curiosity by long-pressing it in the list, or from its detail screen.

Resurface

The Resurface tab brings back open and exploring curiosities when they're ready for another look.

  • Start Here shows the one curiosity to look at first.
  • Tap Next Week to push it back a week.
  • Long-press any curiosity to move it to Today, Tomorrow, or Next Week.
  • Scheduled items are listed under Tomorrow and Next Week.
  • From a curiosity's detail screen, tap Mark As Resurfaced Today once you've revisited it, or Clear Defer to make it available again right away.

Insights

The Insights tab gives you an overview of your library: how many curiosities are in each status, your most common tags, long-running questions, the oldest ones still open, and what you added and revisited this week and this month. Add a few curiosities to start seeing patterns.

Research Goal

Set a small daily or weekly goal for focused research sessions to build a habit.

  1. On the home screen, tap Create Research Goal.
  2. Choose Daily or Weekly and set how many sessions you're aiming for.
  3. Optionally turn on a daily reminder at 7:00 PM. You'll only be reminded if you haven't met your goal yet.
  4. Tap Save.

Whenever you spend focused time exploring a question, tap + on the goal card to log a session (or – to undo one). Your progress resets automatically each day or week.

Tap Start Live Activity to keep your progress visible on your Lock Screen. It updates as you log sessions.

To change or remove your goal, tap Edit on the goal card.

Sync and Privacy

Your curiosities, notes, and attachments sync automatically across your devices through your private iCloud account. Make sure you're signed in to iCloud on each device. If sync can't start, the app will let you know and keep saving on your device.

Your data is stored in your own iCloud account and isn't shared with anyone else.

Troubleshooting

My curiosities aren't showing up on my other device. Check that you're signed in to the same Apple Account on both devices and that iCloud is turned on for CuriosityTracker. Syncing can take a few minutes.

I'm not getting reminders. Make sure the reminder is turned on in your research goal, and that notifications are allowed for CuriosityTracker in Settings › Notifications. Reminders pause once you've met your goal for the current day or week.

CuriosityTracker doesn't appear in the Share menu. Tap More at the end of the app row in the Share menu and turn on CuriosityTracker.

A curiosity disappeared from Resurface. It's either marked as Answered or scheduled for a later day. Check the Tomorrow and Next Week sections, or find it in your library.
